Hotels, Food, Wine, & Shopping
Accomodation
The hotels we stay in are personally
chosen by me and have to meet specific criteria for their cleanliness,
service, attention to detail, amenities, views, closeness to shops and
local attractions, quality of the food they serve, and most importantly the friendliness and competence of the staff combined with the overall
feel and ambiance of the hotel. It's how the staff treat me and you - my guests - and that is a treat in the Dolomites where people really know hospitality. We stay in
three - four star hotels, which I know you will really enjoy.
All guests get their own rooms with attached bathrooms (we do not charge a single person supplement and we don't do "dorms"). We mainly stay in villages, but we do use some more remote and spectacular lodges away from everything if people are interested in that experience.
Many of the hotels we stay in are multi-generational and they are experts at taking care of their guests – it's their life. The staff treats their work as a labor
of love so you are greeted
with warmth and sincerity – you are staying in their home and they
will make you will feel that way. The
staff are attentive, courteous, accommodating and welcoming. All of the hotels we use have excellent service and first
class facilities and conveniences.
With superb locations and comfortable
rooms with all the modern amenities, rooms are elegant, cosy and comfortable.
Located in breathtaking, exclusive settings amid majestic Dolomite peaks, our host
hotels are the ideal starting point for our mountain walks for all ability
levels. Many of our hotels boast first-rate spa facilities, panoramic views of
the mountains, and romantic settings, which just add to the charm of the trip.
Maybe you'd like to stay away from everything in a mountain lodge - we can arrange that, no problem.
We do offer "hut-to-hut" (lodge to lodge or refugio to refugio) trips by request and we only stay in clean and comfortable places.

Culinary Delights
I understand the importance of eating
well and there are few places in the world better to eat than Italy! Restaurants are selectively chosen for
their cleanliness, quality of food and healthy ingredients, the service, and
the ambiance. I believe dinning
out is an special event and so we make it one. I am always on the look out for new places to take people to and I
don’t hold back on our dinning experiences.
Breakfast is generally taken at our hotel
and consists of a buffet with cereals, breads and pastries, fruit, yoghurt and
often a variety of cheeses and meats along with coffee, tea and juices.
Lunch is usually taken a mountain
“Refugio” or lodge along our day’s hiking trail. These lodges can be very quaint and fun to eat at and are
one of the highlights of the trip.
For lunch or dinner you can choose from a selection of traditional South
Tyrolean dishes: canederli allo, gnocchi di ricotta, home-made spec and other
cured meats, apple strudel, an assortments of cheeses from the nearby valleys,
carne salada with grana trentino, locally grown vegetables and mountain herbs,
canederli al puzzone di Moena and fagottino di mele renette – doesn’t it all
sound delicious? And how about a
nice glass of Italian wine or a German beer to wash it all down!
And no trip to Italy would be complete
without a stop at a Pizzeria. While
the styles of crust and topping vary from place to place, the test of any great
pizzeria is of course the Margherita, topped with cheese and tomato sauce.
In the afternoon after our hike you can imagine
yourself walking the streets with a gelato or sipping a cup of cappuccino at a
street-side café watching the world go by and leaving all your stress behind. We’ll then have time at the spa and
then get ready for the evening on the town.
Après really means “after” but it is also
the word for an evening spent with new friends in a unique atmosphere, an
evening with local dishes, an evening to let your hair down, with swinging
music and songs in the traditional style of the valley.
At night after dinner the music from the
bars and pubs beckon and a night of dancing is always a possibility, or simply
a walk down through the streets while eating another gelato. Either way it’s a wonderful end to a
perfect day in the Dolomites.
Superb Wines
Each year South Tyrol's vinous delights are showered with top international awards. They mature deep in cellars beneath picturesque wine manors amid the region's magnificent vinescape, for example along the wine route south of the town of Bolzano. The wines can be savored directly at wine estates, in wine bars or in their most rustic form in rural surroundings at farmsteads in autumn during the annual "Torggelen: tradition of relishing traditional fare and new wine. So, the Dolomites are a
paradise for food and wine connoisseurs, with great wines from all over the
world, including, of course, great Italian wines with modern touch. And after an active day in the
clean mountain air one can enjoy a great meal and a glass of wine without guilt
usually associated with a vacation.
Shopping
Mountain traditions pervade every aspect
of the craft heritage of the valleys of the Dolomites and regional craftsman
have attained extremely high standards of esthetic and artistic expression.
In the towns we visit, you’ll be able to
find stores at all points of the price scale. Of course there will be every
opportunity to buy souvenirs and postcards and there are many outdoor stores to pick up anything you might have forgotten or just to get a
unique piece of outdoor clothing or a piece of cool gear not available back home.
The
strong ethnic differences in the area have resulted in high quality craft
products with a very distinctive local character, which can be admired and
purchased in the many markets held in the towns and villages of the region. ATM’s can be found in most towns we
pass through.
The area is world famous for its woodcarvings
and wooden sculptures, but you can also find beautiful ceramics, jewelry, glass
and other types of arts and crafts.
There are many stores to be found that proudly show off the latest
Italian and European clothes, shoes and accessories.
